Rafael RG

RAFAEL RG lives and works between Guarulhos (SP), São Luís do Maranhão (MA), and Recife (PE). He holds a degree in Visual Arts from Belas Artes de São Paulo (PROUNI Scholar - 2010). He has participated in exhibitions and festivals in cities across Brazil and other countries. Among his awards are the 1st ArtRio Focus Prize, the Honorable Mention for Art and Heritage Award/IPHAN, the Acquisition Prize from the São Paulo Cultural Center, the Iberê Camargo Scholarship for residency at Künstlerhaus Bremen (Germany), and the Pampulha Scholarship for residency at the Pampulha Museum of Art (MG).

His recent residencies include Gasworks in London (2018), Black Rock Senegal in Dakar (2019), Triangle France - Astérides in Marseille (2020), YBYTU (2021) and the FAAP Artistic Residency (2022), both in São Paulo, The 55 Project in Miami (2022), and Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2023).

In his artistic practice, RG often draws from two sources to construct his works: one documentary and the other affective, usually through the use of documents unearthed from institutional or personal archives associated with narratives that may involve himself or an alter ego. The interaction between these territorialities results in works that almost always border on fiction or a tense notion of fictionality. Current areas of interest include affective and sexual relationships and their political implications, as well as issues of racial identity. These inquiries often unfold into workshops, installations, performative texts, publications, and objects.

About the Residency and Exhibition

In 2025, artists Bel Falleiros and Renata Cruz took part in a residency at The55Project Art and Residency Program in Miami. During their time in residence, they developed a collaborative investigation into inner landscapes, perception, and expanded notions of territory.

The residency culminated in the exhibition Inward Vastness, which brought together works that explore intimacy, scale, and the subtle geographies of the inner self.
